To Carlsbad and Back: Day One

To Carlsbad and Back: Day One

Day one (two weeks ago tomorrow) in our first mini road trip of the summer involved getting up at the crack of dawn (the norm for our house, by the way) and loading the car with our final few items before grabbing breakfast at McDonald’s for the boys and a Blake’s breakfast burrito for me. Then we finally hit the road for Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The Adventure Begins...

The Adventure Begins...

Tomorrow the boys and I leave on our first mini road trip of the summer. We’re headed down to Carlsbad Caverns, and a few other places along the way for an upcoming photo project. We’re going to be camping out while we’re down there, which is also exciting for the boys. I’ve been camping multiple times in my life, especially as a Girl Scout Trainer, teaching other Leaders how it’s done. I’ve also been to Carlsbad and the surrounding area before, although it has been a few years.

Defining MY Ideal Client

Defining MY Ideal Client

Over the course of the last two years, I have been working to become a Certified Wedding Photographer through The International Academy of Wedding Photographers. This is an online school with courses in wedding photography taught by some of the biggest names in the industry. We go over all sorts of things: using off-camera flash, branding, photo editing, posing, workflow, and so much more. Part of the reason that I am working toward this certification is so that I can learn how to provide you guys the best services I possibly can.

Digital Images Are Important! Or, I’m Lucky to Have My Digital Images from MY Wedding!

Justin and I will be celebrating our 9th anniversary this April 24th, and every day I am reminded of a reason I’m grateful to have married my best friend. Our ceremony took place at the UNM Alumni Memorial Chapel, and our reception took place in Ballroom C of the College Union Building.

How To: Picking a Location for Your Family Portrait Session

How To: Picking a Location for Your Family Portrait Session

One of the current trends that I love in photography is taking family portrait sessions out of the studio and into the community. So much more can be created when you’re outside- especially during the Golden Hour. But, you also need to be mindful of the safety of your location- especially with young kids are around.

Heirlooms, Antiques, and Genealogy: What do They Have to do With Photography?

Heirlooms, Antiques, and Genealogy: What do They Have to do With Photography?

I recently went through the re-branding process, and as part of that process, I had to define my purpose as a photographer. Why did I become a photographer? What did I want my goal with my clients to be? What was most important to me about photography?

This Year's Goals

This Year's Goals

It is so hard to believe that it is time to write new dreams and set new goals. I fell a bit short on a few goals from last year, mainly those of photographing 40 family sessions (I made it to 33!) and running a 10K (that didn't happen at all!), but I actually accomplished my other two goals of reading 36 books, and photographing 5 weddings. It was awesome to realize that I'd achieved those! It was also awesome to look back and realize that I'd accomplished so much more. I was featured on another blog, I was recognized as one of the best photographers in Albuquerque, and I met so many incredible individuals while doing something I love. How do I top all of that? I don't know, but I'm gonna try!

What Serving YOU Means to Me

What Serving YOU Means to Me

I recently had a conversation with another wedding friendor (a wedding vendor turned friend) about my commitment to customer service- or rather my over-commitment to it. It made me realize that I haven’t publicly shared something about myself and my business that I’ve been hoping y’all would just figure out (and some of you have!!!). What I need to share about myself and my business with y’all is that my commitment to service is not superficial or something that I know I should have because I’m providing a service to you guys. It is an ingrained part of my core being, and something I do, no matter what.

10 Things Your Wedding Photographer Wishes You Knew

10 Things Your Wedding Photographer Wishes You Knew

There are things we wish we could all tell others about our jobs. But, when you work in a service-based industry, where you work with people who've hired you to do something for them that they can't do for themselves, it's even more prevalent. Following- and in no particular order- are the things I wish I could tell all of my clients, so that they can understand that they're not alone.

What Happens When a Photographer Takes Photos of Her Own Family- Los Lunas, New Mexico

What Happens When a Photographer Takes Photos of Her Own Family- Los Lunas, New Mexico

On the day before Thanksgiving of all days, my mom asked me to take the guys in our family out and take portraits of them to send to all of my aunts and cousins in her Christmas cards. You would think that this would be one of the easiest photo sessions of my year- after all, it's my three boys, my dad, and my brother. You would be mistaken. Silliness ensues, chaos occurs, and yes- just like any other family- my kids need to be bribed to sit still and smile nicely.

How to Get Pinterest-Perfect Wedding Photos, Even With a Tiny Budget

This day in age, just about every couple is looking for wedding inspiration on Pinterest. Even those who are married (me include) have boards of ideas for their perfect wedding. So, how do you get those photos at your own wedding?

New Mexico Event and Wedding Planning's Bridal Showcase

In my business, I focus on serving families and weddings, and as a wedding photographer, part of advertising is participating as a vendor in bridal expos.
