Tuesdays Together, New Mexico Volunteers at Roadrunner Food Bank

LDS-Wedding-Photographer

I know it's late, but I had to share today's adventure with y'all. Today I took the time to volunteer at New Mexico's largest food bank with the Rising Tide Society's Tuesdays Together New Mexico group.

Nine ladies, including myself, spent two hours today sorting and packing bread and other bakery items at Roadrunner this morning. While two hours doesn't seem like a lot of time, if you multiply it by 9, it turns into 18 hours of work. In those 18 hours, we sorted and packaged 3,000 pounds of bread and other items that will ship out to different food banks all over our state to help feed 70,000 people this next week.

While I've spent a great deal of time volunteering- and know and value it's importance- it was important to me to spend this time with these other creative entrepreneurs, which is why I went. The ladies that I got to spend time with are the closest people I have to work friends. Each of us has our own individual business- yes, some of them are other photographers!- but, we value our community and our friendships over competing with one another. Today was a good day because I got to get out of my home office and do something different, and because I got to strengthen my friendships with some amazing people.

So, why am I sharing this with y'all? Because I want you guys to know that the people I work with care about our communities, and our state, and YOU just as much as I do. It takes a special kind of person to volunteer their time to serve people that they've never met, and these people do it.

Thanks for a great day guys!
